IMPORTANT: EQIP Financial Assistance for Driftless Area Conservation Practices

Posted on 20. Jul, 2012 by in Featured, Federal programs, News, Resources

Important news from the NRCS website:

NRCS will offer financial assistance in 2012 to agricultural producers for implementing practices that reduce erosion and improve fish wildlife habitat in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin. Financial assistance will come through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and will focus on reducing erosion and sediment delivery to surface water as well as activities related to improving fish and wildlife habitats.

The program provides payments to help implement designated conservation practices. Socially disadvantaged farmers, limited resource farmers, and beginning farmers may qualify for higher program payments.

I just came from a meeting about this new Driftless initiative. As there is a short sign-up period (Applications must be received in your NRCS office by August 3rd) they anticipate funding almost all farmers that apply. This is a GREAT opportunity for apple growers to establish native pollinator sites in and around your orchard !!!!).

This new Driftless Initiative for EQIP sign-up is available to any grower in the driftless area in the states of WI, MN, IA and IL..
